Timing your food around your workout makes a real difference. Here is what to eat before and after gym using foods you actually find in an Indian kitchen.

What to Eat Before Gym (Pre-Workout Meal)

Goal: Give your body enough energy for the workout without feeling heavy or sick while exercising.

Timing: Eat a proper meal 90 minutes to 2 hours before workout. If you are in a rush, a light snack 30 to 45 minutes before is fine.

Good Pre-Workout Meal Options (90 min before):

2 rotis + dal or sabzi

1 cup oats with banana and a spoon of peanut butter

    Brown rice with dal

    Poha with peanuts

    Quick Snack (30 min before):

    1 banana

    A handful of dates

2 to 3 rice cakes with peanut butter

A small cup of curd with honey

Avoid: Heavy, oily food. Biryani, puri sabzi, or anything deep fried right before gym will make you feel sluggish and you might feel nauseous during exercise.

What to Eat After Gym (Post-Workout Meal)

Goal: Refuel glycogen stores and give your muscles protein to repair and grow.

Timing: Within 30 to 45 minutes after workout.

    Good Post-Workout Options:

4 egg whites + 2 whole eggs with vegetables

    Paneer bhurji with 2 rotis

Whey protein shake with banana (fastest option)

Curd rice with a protein side

    Chicken or dal with rice

The key is to get protein and carbs together after your workout. Protein repairs muscles. Carbs replenish energy stores.

What About Fasted Workouts (Morning Gym)?

Some people work out first thing in the morning before eating. This is fine. Have a small snack (banana or dates) if you feel low on energy, or train fasted and eat a good breakfast immediately after.
