Everyone wants six pack abs. The fitness industry makes billions selling the dream. Here is the actual truth about how abs work.
Abs Are Made in the Kitchen
You already have abs. Everyone does. They are just hidden under a layer of body fat. To see them, you need to reduce your body fat percentage low enough.
For abs to be visible:
Men: below 12 to 15% body fat
Women: below 18 to 22% body fat
No amount of crunches will reveal abs if your body fat is too high. Diet is 80 percent of the equation.
How Low is That Exactly?
For most Indian gym beginners with average body fat:
Men: you are probably at 20 to 25% body fat when you start
Women: 28 to 35%
Getting to six-pack territory takes sustained effort, usually 6 months to 1 year of consistent training and eating right.
The Best Ab Exercises
These exercises build the ab muscles underneath. Pair them with fat loss:
Planks (best for overall core stability)
Hanging leg raises (best for lower abs)
Cable crunches (best for upper abs with resistance)
Bicycle crunches
Ab wheel rollouts
Train abs 2 to 3 times per week. More is not better.
The Simple Six Pack Formula
Calorie deficit + high protein + strength training + ab exercises + patience = visible abs. There is no shortcut.
